Biography

Colten Lavery is an associate at Morrison Watts Hurtado, where he practices labour and employment law. He joined the firm in 2025 after completing his articles at a labour and employment boutique. Colten graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in politics and economics at Ithaca College, in 2020 and received his J.D. at Queen’s University in 2024.

Before joining Morrison Watts Hurtado, he gained broad experience in workplace law, including construction labour matters, human rights, occupational health and safety, and WSIB files. He has appeared before arbitrators and the Ontario Labour Relations Board, and has assisted in preparing submissions, drafting examination materials, and supporting clients through complex legal processes.

His passion for workers’ rights is rooted in his experience as a union steward with PSAC 901, where he advocated for fair pay for teaching assistants at Queen’s University. That experience sparked a deep commitment to the labour movement and a desire to build a career advancing the rights of workers through progressive legal advocacy.

In his free time Colten is a fan of playing and watching tennis, working out, and spending time with friends.
