Biography
Emily Miranda (she/her) began her career in Construction after receiving a Diploma in Architectural and Building Engineering from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She worked initially as a drafter, then as a construction estimator and project coordinator for both subcontractors and general contractors. She later started her own freelance estimating business.
Emily also completed an Honours B.A. in Political Science, with a minor in Law & Society, at Concordia University before earning her J.D. at Osgoode Hall Law School. At Osgoode, she served as Vice-President of OutLaws, the 2SLGBTQ+ student association, and was a Junior Editor with the Journal of Law and Social Policy. During the 2023-2024 academic year, Emily completed a placement at the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, providing support to survivors of intimate partner violence and contributing to policy initiatives aimed at ending the overcriminalization of women. During the Summer and Fall terms of 2024, Emily worked in the Workers’ Rights Division at Parkdale Community Legal Services, where she advocated for workers on a range of matters, including unpaid wages, workplace discrimination, and reprisal claims.
Outside of work, Emily is the executive belly rub coordinator (and occasional chew toy) of Bernard, an energetic Cockapoo who keeps her constantly on the move. During her vacations, you’ll likely find her in Lisbon, catching up with family, shopping, and indulging in all the fresh seafood she can get her hands on.
